I love my simple home!
If you know me you MIGHT not believe me. If you have spent any time with me, you have probably heard me complain about my home at least once.“There are NO CLOSETS” “The kitchen is tiny” “There is no dishwasher and no garbage disposal” “There isn’t even room for a real dinner table” “There is no central heat & air” “There is no room for my stuff” “There is no privacy”
And each of those complaints has at least SOME truth in there. It’s a little house – less than 1,000 square feet. There are only two small closets. The kitchen is small already and putting in a dishwasher would just take away from valuable cabinet space. It was not built to be a permanent residence – but it has become our permanent residence. But if you have heard me complain about these things, I’d like to take just a minute to tell you this…
I LOVE MY HOME!
I love that my husband built our home with only a little help from family and friends (no professionals). I am so thankful that all through this crazy hot summer (with temps over 110) my house was a cool place to come in out of the heat thanks to our new window air conditioner. I am thankful that I have twice as many clothes as my closet will hold and I’m thankful for a spacious shop building with plenty of room to store those off season things. I am thankful that my family is so close and has such sweet relationships that we almost never get on each other’s nerves in our little home.
I love that we DON’T have one of those perfectly manicured lawns. I love sitting in the grass and running my fingers through the clover and little star flowers and yes, even weeds. I love the honeysuckle that grows wild against the fence. I love the sound of roosters crowing all around us in the morning (and I’m glad that it means the neighbors won’t be mad when MY roosters start to crow!) I love the train that Mr. Fix It bought for Josie when Celebration Station closed. I love the swing hanging from my tree in the middle of my flower bed. I love the bonfires we can have in our yard in the fall when it’s cool and crisp outside. I love our picnic table where we eat anytime the weather is pretty. And I love the small simple patio that it sits on, that doesn’t look like much to anyone else, but for me will always be the spot I became “Mrs. Fix It”!
