Cool as a Cucumber Dip and Kickin' Jalapeno Barbecue DipI was so excited about the cookout I was planning.  The weatherman said we’d have sun (no chance of tornadoes is always a good thing in Oklahoma!).  I had so many great grilling ideas and I’d found the perfect “galvanized” serving platters at Sam’s when I went to pick up burgers and Tyson Grillin’ Wings.  Everything was coming together.

But when we woke up that morning, the skies looked angry.  There were big grey clouds and not a ray of sunshine to be seen. I worried and looked up the hourly forecast.  Whew! It said that the sun would return by 3 o’clock (just in time to prepare for guests that would arrive about 5:30).  Sure enough, about 3:30 I started to see sun peeking through the clouds and headed out to set up some tables.  Here’s what I found…

Tyson Crazy Wind #whatsgrillin #shop

There was a crazy Oklahoma wind blowing, and there were overturned chairs, my swing was tangled far up in the tree, and my grill was upside down. And that wind wasn’t stopping!  As I started setting things upright and trying to prepare for the cookout, I started to feel a little bit like Dorothy Gale. I tried to start setting out the food, but as soon as I walked out with the chips and buns and a gust took them flying, I knew that eating outside was a lost cause.

But the food had to be grilled, no matter where we’d be eating it, so the Grillmaster (aka Mr. Fix It) started working his magic, while I tried to rearrange to move the rest of the party indoors.

Our guests began to arrive, and we all managed to pack ourselves into my tiny house.  We had a good laugh about the crazy Oklahoma weather. Once Mr. Fix It started bringing in the food, it was snatched up faster than he could get it on the platters.  Everything was delicious!

    Oh goodness! I’m so glad you were able to have a fun party—even though you had to deal with the nasty storm! Your post makes me want a grill SO bad! We had to leave ours in Oregon and it’s first on my list for cbias money as soon as sofabcon is over! In other news, this is the first time I made the Dorothy GALE connection…gale, like big ol’ Kansas tornado wind, duh… 🙂 Anyway, hope all’s well!

      We grill year round! We’re used to this crazy spring weather around here. We are THAT family that hangs out in the yard looking for funnels when it’s stormy. {Shhh}
