Chocolate Sheet Cake is another childhood favorite from Nanny’s recipe box! If you love chocolate and can never get enough, this is the recipe for you. It’s deep, dark and delicious – and so simple to make from scratch!  You don’t even have to wait for this cake to cool before you ice it.  You probably have all the ingredients already!

Nanny's Chocolate Sheet Cake
Recipe type: Dessert
Here's all you need:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 5 TBSP cocoa
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 stick butter
  • 6 TBSP buttermilk
  • 4 TBSP cocoa
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  1. Preheat oven to 375
  2. Stir together sugar and flour.
  3. Combine cocoa, water and butter in saucepan and bring to a boil.
  4. Pour over sugar and flour mixture while hot and beat.
  5. Beat in eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla.
  6. Bake in greased sheet cake pan for 15 - 20 minutes.
  1. Put butter, buttermilk and cocoa in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Add powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
  3. Ice cake while hot.

    I would like to add some orange flavor to the cake, but not necessarily the icing. What do you think would be the best way to accomplish this?
