I get teased by my family every time we have something chocolate to eat.  My mom tells over and over again, how when I was very little and my Uncle Oliver asked me “What is your favorite kind of pie?” and I said in a long, drawn out, little kid lisp “Ssshhock-lut”.  Half the time when my mom says “chocolate”, she says “ssshhock-lut” and then looks at me with her sly little grin.  Yes, I loved chocolate pie – and when I said I loved chocolate pie, this is the chocolate pie I was talking about.  Nanny’s Snow Ghost Pie.

Nanny's Snow Ghost Pie
Recipe type: Dessert
The best chocolate pie on earth - period.
Here's all you need:
  • ½ cup Cocoa
  • 1¼ cup Sugar
  • ⅓ cup Cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 3 Tbsp Butter
  • 1½ tsp vanilla
  • 9 inch baked pie shell (I like this one, but store bought is fine too)
  1. Stir together the dry ingredients in a medium saucepan
  2. Gradually add milk, stirring until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  4. Once it comes to a boil, allow to boil one minute while stirring.
  5. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla.
  6. Pour into baked 9 inch shell.
  7. Allow to cool and then refrigerate until ready to serve.
